Harlem Avenue and 70th Street have reopened after a 5-vehicle crash involving a semi and diesel leak Tuesday, Bridgevew Police said.
Police were asking drivers to avoid the intersection of Southwest Highway and Cicero Avenue following the Monday morning crash.
Of the 47.9 million Americans who plan to travel 50 miles or more during June 30-July 4 holiday weekend, a record 42 million will travel.
The accident has forced police to close the west lane of the street between Harlem Avenue and I-294 and drivers are asked to avoid the area.
Oak Lawn police said they closed a portion of 87th Street at around 5:40 a.m. Friday and again at 8:30 a.m. for another traffic accident.
Due to the visitation procession for fallen CPD Officer Ella French, motorists may experience delays Wednesday on Harlem Avenue and 79th St.
Police said the crash has been cleared from the roadway, but units are still investigating.
Repaving and safety upgrades are part of a $5 million Illinois Department of Transportation project that will take place in the coming year.
Police aren't sure when 79th Street near State Road in Burbank will reopen.
