Blizzard Closings, Late Starts, Road Conditions In Will County

Plus information on power outages and snowfall totals.

PLAINFIELD, IL — After a blizzard dumped as much as 11 inches of snow in some parts of Illinois, many school districts announced closings for Monday, while some facilities — including YMCAs and libraries — said they'd be opening late.

As of around 6 a.m. Monday, area towns and police departments were reporting these conditions on the roads:

  • Joliet police (4:40 a.m.): "The traffic signals at the intersection of E Laraway Rd & S Chicago St are currently out. Police are on scene until the electric company can respond to correct the issue. As a reminder, a blacked-out traffic signaled intersection is to be treated as a 4-way stop."
  • Plainfield police: "All roadways are passable but snow packed. High winds reduce visibility in some areas. If you can delay your travel until later this morning please do. If you must travel please set aside extra time and drive with due caution."
  • Village of Oswego: "Please be aware that Plainfield Road is currently closed between Collins Road and Schlapp Road due to downed live power lines on the roadway. The road will remain closed until Comed is able to respond."
  • United City of Yorkville: "Galena Road between Route 47 and Rosenwinkel is temporarily closed due to a power line in the roadway."

Residents in some parts of Joliet and Crest Hill reported power outages in the early hours of Monday morning. ComEd said more than 169,000 customers in the state were without power as of around 6 a.m., including:
