Walmart Employee Stabbed To Death At IL Store: Police

The 18-year-old retail worker was attacked by a stranger, according to police, who said the assailant is charged with first-degree murder.

ROCKFORD, IL — An 18-year-old Walmart employee was killed in a stabbing at the big-box store in Rockford, according to police.

Officers responded around 6 p.m. Sunday to the retailer in the 3800 block of Northridge Drive, where they found the teen with a life-threatening wound to the back, police said, adding the worker was taken to a hospital but died shortly afterward.

The attacker was a stranger to the teen, according to police, who identified the assailant as 28-year-old Timothy Carter of Cabery. Carter was arrested, lodged in Winnebago County jail and charged with first-degree murder, police said.

“We’re devastated to learn that one of our associates has died following a violent attack inside our Rockford, IL store,” Walmart told USA Today in a prepared statement, offering condolences to the teen’s family and adding it was supporting workers and helping police after the stabbing.
