Amazon HQ2 Shortlist Of Candidates Includes Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS, IN — It's official - Indianapolis is a top 20 contender for Amazon's second company headquarters location, as the company just released its shortlist of cities that is has chosen as finalists. The company said it reviewed 238 proposals from across the U.S., Canada and Mexico to host its second headquarters in North America. A final tally of contenders released by Amazon in October revealed that only six states in the U.S. did not submit bids for HQ2: Arkansas, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming and Vermont. Several cities Indiana, including many in the central part of the state, submitted bids.

The company announced on Thursday morning that the following 20 locations were on its shortlist:

  2. Denver, CO
  3. Indianapolis, IN
  4. Los Angeles, CA
  5. Miami, FL
  6. Montgomery County, MD
  7. Nashville, TN
  8. Newark, NJ
  9. New York City, NY
  10. Northern Virginia, VA
  11. Philadelphia, PA
  12. Pittsburgh, PA
  13. Raleigh, NC
  14. Toronto, ON
  15. Washington D.C.
  16. Atlanta, GA
  17. Austin, TX
  18. Boston, MA
  19. Chicago, IL
  20. Columbus, OH

Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett released a statement following the exciting news, saying in part, "Today's short list from Amazon makes clear that no matter what the final decision may be, Indianapolis is already a big winner." (Full statement below).

Boone County (five locations), Hammond and Gary were among the Indiana spots vying for the chance to house the Seattle-based company's new headquarters spot. For the winning area, the online retail giant promises 50,000 jobs.

Fishers' Mayor Scott Fadness and Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett are collaborating and advocating for Indy-area locations, and submitted bids in September of last year.
