A Boone County prosecutor filed formal murder charges against the man accused of shooting and killing Deputy Jacob Pickett: Report

LEBANON, IN — AP News reports a Boone County prosecutor filed formal murder charges on Tuesday against the man accused of fatally shooting a county sheriff's deputy during a chase on Friday. Online court records show that the prosecutor also filed charges of possession of an illegal handgun, marijuana and methamphetamine against 21-year-old Anthony Baumgardt, AP News says.

Police officials said Baumgardt shot Boone County Sheriff's Deputy Jacob Pickett, 30, in the head Friday morning while the deputy was helping Lebanon Police Officers chase Baumgardt and two other men after performing a search warrant on a 28-year-old woman in Lebanon.

AP News says Baumgardt, who is from Lebanon, has been in jail since Saturday after he was released from a hospital where he was treated for injuries from when other officers returned fire.
