ZIONSVILLE, IN – In the four-plus years I've been an active member of the working journalism world, this "world" has been constantly changing and evolving. The news we consume, the journalists, the roles, and platforms from which we get our news are always updating. From Chicago, to Indianapolis, to Muncie, and back, it doesn't matter how big or small the area is – news is always breaking and events are always happening. So much in fact, I'm constantly focused on what to prioritize and why when it comes to an area and its audience.

Growing up in a north suburb of Chicago, I was fortunate to intern with WBBM CBS Chicago during summer 2012 before my senior year at Indiana University, Bloomington. Getting my start as a journalist in one of the top markets and biggest cities in the country is an experience and opportunity I'll always keep in the back of my head when it comes to my work in other cities.

Fast-forward to June 2013, the start of a two-year chapter as an Associate Producer and Digital Corespondent for WRTV Indianapolis. While I still chose the news and put it together, I realized I wanted to have more of a say in the stories I told, and to make them my own.

That's what led me to finding my reporter role for Gannett in Muncie, IN. at The Star Press. I was the Trends and Social Scene Reporter Sept. 2015 to May 2017, bringing Muncie and Delaware County the day's top trends and events through newspaper or online stories. I was the girl with the "good, positive news," something that city needed more of, as I was told by community members more times than I can count. I took the job because I wanted to bring exactly that, and because news is going beyond paper and television. But with the company still attached to the daily responsibilities of a newspaper, the number of staff members began to dwindle. I had to find a role elsewhere, and it happened at the perfect time.

As a 26-year-old in a world dependent on the quickest and most convenient methods, I was honest with myself about where it is I get my hourly or minute-by-minute news updates. Where do my friends and family mostly get theirs? Smart phone, tablet, and computer. Apps, social media platforms, and websites. Patch has it all, and found me when I was looking for them.
