ESSEX, MD — Baltimore County has a new dock bar.

LoonAsea, which doubles as a live music venue, opened Thursday in Essex. Located on Hopkins Creek just off the Middle River, the bar and grill has the same owners as the popular Looney's Pub.

LoonAsea replaces River Watch Restaurant & Marina. It's located next to The Crazy Tuna Bar & Grill.

"What started as a casual conversation between Steve, myself and the ... Sullivan family of River Watch Restaurant & Marina 7 years ago over drinks, 16 months of construction delays, permit delays, my ocd and changes, LoonAsea Maryland is now a reality!" Co-Owner Bill Larney said June 13 on Facebook. "We can't thank you enough for not only the support, but the patience! We cannot wait to share with you the changes and the new vibe coming to Hopkins Creek."

The restaurant will have frequent live music, just like the Looney's Pub locations in Bel Air, College Park, Maple Lawn and Perry Hall. This bar, however, will have more of a beachy atmosphere.

LoonAsea has indoor and outdoor bandstands. Dozens of high-top tables overlook the outdoor stage. Some seats are under shaded areas.

There's also an outdoor bar where customers can enjoy the music. A retractable wall of windows lets patrons at the two indoor bars hear the outdoor tunes.

"Our new staff (over 150 strong) have been training and seeing what being a #looneys4lifer is all about!" Larney said. "We are forever grateful."
