BEVERLY, MA —Beverly will join other U.S. cities in reviewing its police department's use-of-force policies in the wake of the death of George Lloyd and two weeks of protests across the country.

"I believe that our use of force policy has protected our community," Mayor Mike Cahill said in a statement Saturday. "And, yes, absolutely, it is appropriate and timely that we review it now as part of a broader community conversation."

Cahill said his decision comes after former President Barack Obama asked U.S. mayors to pledge to conduct such reviews. Salem Mayor Kim Driscoll made the same pledge on Friday.
