WORCESTER, MA — Palates of Brookline beware, the taste of Worcester is in your midst.

The flamboyant specialty sub shop Ziggy Bombs in April opened its second location along Armory Street, according to BU Today, offering massive cheesesteak sandwiches in varieties ranging from original to Mexican street corn, buffalo ranch and the famed Pu Pu platter — that's a cheesesteak topped with crab Rangoon, chicken fingers and boneless spareribs.

Ziggy Bombs started years ago as a food truck, strafing communities in the Worcester area with its looney steak-and-cheese creations. Owner Mike Devish (AKA Ziggy) opened the first brick-and-mortar shop in downtown Worcester in late 2022. Soon after, Devish announced plans for outposts in Leicester (still "coming soon") and Brookline.

For as many fans as it has, Ziggy Bombs has also courted controversy in the Worcester area. One Reddit thread on the restaurant pondered why so many have issues with it.

"Does this place give Insane Clown Posse energy to anyone else?" one commenter wrote.

Some diners have also had logistical problems with the sandwiches, and the prices. The $18.99 Pu Pu platter sub has especially been divisive. The author of the BU Today piece noted how hard it was to eat a sandwich with so many toppings.

"I encountered a major problem: the boneless spare ribs were spilling out of the soft sub roll, and the chicken fingers were so large that there wasn’t even space for them between the bread. I took my first bite regardless, fingers making contact with the sticky duck sauce, and as expected, the ingredients tumbled out," reporter Gia Shin wrote.

The new Brookline store is located at 173 Armory St. Find the full menu here.
