Join the walking book club, Fowler Afoot, to read The Boatman: Henry David Thoreau's River Years by Robert Thorson. Enjoy a discussion of the book while strolling along the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail. Meet at Fowler Library and walk to the trail together. If the weather doesn’t cooperate, we will meet inside. 1322 Main St.

RiverFest is an annual celebration, hosted by The SuAsCo Wild &amp; Scenic River Stewardship Council (RSC). The RSC was created to promote the protection of the rivers and their resources. It is a partnership of representatives from each of the eight Wild &amp; Scenic River communities, state and federal agencies, and two regional conservation organizations. All of the events and activities are volunteer-led by partner organizations and are free and open to the public.

deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum and The Trustees, in collaboration with Fugitive Productions, is hosting “Pondside Stories,” a new offering of “True Stories Told Live.” Join us for a fabulous evening of storytelling and community! Eight storytellers — several experienced, competition winners along with some local community tellers — will be sharing their stories.
Fugitive Stories brings the craft of true stories told live to audiences in Boston’s western ’burbs. Each night is unique and they never fail to entertain. Hearing a true story in a live performance is fun, moving, and transformative. Fugitive Stories’ evenings intimately reveal what we all have in common, making people feel more human and more alive. You will laugh and sometimes shed a few tears. Every event opens a door to a memory, a new friend, or to your heart. Humanity’s earliest stories were about survival, hope, loss, love, and courage. Today’s stories echo the same themes.
July 10th – The evening’s theme is “Haven”
August 14th – The evening’s theme will be “Road Trip”
September 11th – The evening’s theme will be “Breathless”

Artist Linda Malone is offering another 5-week Acrylics Painting Class at the COA, starting September 12th. The class is appropriate for anyone who is a beginner or intermediate painter. Linda teaches the art of color mixing, brush strokes, glazing, and other painting techniques. Painting with acrylics is a great way to build confidence, as it is a very forgiving medium. The fee of $150 per 5-week class, including all materials, is due before the first class. Please make your check for $150 dollars payable to The Town of Concord. Please call the COA office to sign up starting Sept. 3 (due to Labor Day holiday) at 978-318-3020.

deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum

Join us for an artist-led workshop and material demonstration in which pigments are derived from the leaves, petals, and berries that thrive on the deCordova campus. Venture out on a guided walk with artist Ellie Irons to collect and gather the blossoms and leaves that green the Sculpture Park. After the walk, enjoy a demonstration with Ellie Irons to investigate the gathering, cultivating, and processing of these natural materials on an intimate scale. Share conversation with the artist around the wider implications of labeling certain plant forms as “alien”, “exotic” or “invasive” and develop your own deeper plant-human connection.

About the Artist:
Ellie Irons is an artist, educator, and parent living and working on Mohican land in Troy, New York, USA. Working across media—from watercolor paintings to un-lawning experiments—her practice combines socially engaged art and ecology fieldwork. Recent work involves collaborations about and with spontaneous urban plants (aka weeds), including co-founding the Next Epoch Seed Library and the Environmental Performance Agency. Ellie received a BA from Scripps College, an MFA from Hunter College, completed her PhD in arts practice Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 2021, researching forms of artistic practice that cultivate plant-human solidarity. Her work has been covered by publications ranging from Art in America to the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Her book Feral Hues: A Guide to Painting with Weeds was published in 2023 by Publication Studio Hudson. She serves as the community science educator for the Sanctuary for Independent Media’s NATURE Lab.
