What You Need to Know About This Week's Topsfield Fair

The 197th Topsfield Fair, the oldest fair, and one of the most popular fairs in the country, opened Friday, Oct. 2, and will run through Columbus Day, Oct. 12, at the Topsfield Fairgrounds. 207 Boston St., Topsfield, Mass.

New England Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off was held on Friday, and all of the top entries will be on display throughout the entire run of the Fair. The prize winner will be in the Vegetable Building while the runners-up will remain along the periphery of the Arena. Seeds from giant pumpkins are for sale in the Vegetable Building.

The giant pumpkin weigh-off .at the Topsfield Fair brought international recognition in 2002 when Charlie Houghton of New Boston, N.H.’s giant pumpkin was deemed the largest ever. The pumpkin weighed 1337.6 pounds and was officially entered into the Guinness Book of World Records.

Dogs at the Fair

The only dogs allowed on the Fairgrounds during fair time are service dogs and those participating in events, e.g., police K-9 demonstrations, Dock Dogs events, etc.

Free Concerts (Entertainment, Stage)

All entertainment held at the Grandstand and small stages are free with Fair admission.

Midway Specials (Bracelets, Discounted Ride Tickets)

On certain evenings, a Midway Special may be offered. Bracelets that will get you unlimited rides on most MIDWAY rides must be purchased at Midway Ticket Booths for $25 starting at 5 PM on the first Friday and 6 PM on Monday through Wednesday.

Parking at the Fairgrounds (Off-site Parking, Satellite Parking, Shuttle Busses)

Several large parking lots surround the Topsfield Fair. On busy weekend days, you are advised to take advantage of our satellite parking lots located at Masconomet Regional High School, which operates 11 AM to 7 PM and at North Shore Community College Danvers Campus, which operates 10 AM to close. The parking fees are discounted at the satellite parking lots and guests are shuttled directly to the Main Gate on buses using restricted backroads to ensure quick passage.
