Superintendent Speaks On Linden Principal Issue - Sort Of

While stressing the importance of transparency, Oteri said he was not able to divulge much on Richard Bransfield's contract non-renewal.

MALDEN, MA — Superintendent John Oteri spoke on the non-renewal of a beloved Malden principal's contract Wednesday, but cited privacy reasons as to why he couldn't say much.

"While I believe transparency and communication is key, I cannot disclose or comment on the non-renewal of Mr. Bransfield’s contract," Oteri told Patch in an email. "Every employee is afforded the right to privacy and matters such as this are confidential and simply cannot be discussed in a public forum."

Bransfield told colleagues Tuesday his contract wouldn't be renewed. The news found its way to the PTO Facebook page later that day, and none seemed too happy to hear it.

Bransfield has been in the district for 35 years.

"Malden has meant the world to me and I have dedicated a career to the students, families and the district as a whole but as you know Linden has always been my home," Bransfield wrote in the letter.

Oteri also didn't say how the search for the next principal would be conducted, only that he will keep everyone informed as they move forward with a plan.
