Accomplished Chef To Open Steakhouse In Reading

A steakhouse touting a farm-to-table approach will open in the former Reading Post Office.

READING, MA — Post 1917 is a new steakhouse in Reading that will open this weekend. The restaurant is located at 136 Haven St., formerly the home of Reading's century-old post office.

Post 1917 is "a steakhouse that integrates classic steakhouse with contemporary fashion," according to a press release. The menu features USDA prime cuts of beef from Bandt Farms.

Ingredients are sourced locally and desserts and breads will be made in-house.

The restaurant's space "features Italian cypress trees decorating the archways that separate the elegant dining room from the inviting 40-seat bar, boasting beautiful quartz countertops," according to the press release.

Post 1917 will also have an outdoor patio that will open Memorial Day weekend and will seat 50 people. Diners will be able to listen to live music on the patio Thursday through Saturday.

Jason Carron, a chef who has two decades of experience in the hospitality consulting business, is opening the restaurant. Carron's Avery Restaurant Consulting was recognized as one the Top 10 Hospitality Marketing Solutions Providers by Travel & Hospitality Tech Outlook.

He has also helped clients win accolades including the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence in 2014 and, more recently, the Dirona Award.

“Post 1917 represents more than just a steakhouse; it's a testament to our dedication to bring people together and redefine the modern dining experience,” Carron said in a statement. “Reading has been missing a destination that blends local charm with innovative cuisine, and we hope to fill that void with Post 1917’s unique blend of historic ambiance, locally-sourced ingredients, and culinary expertise.”

The kitchen at Post 1917 is open Tuesday through Saturday at 5 pm. When the patio opens, a special menu will be available beginning at 11:30 a.m.
