SHREWSBURY, MA — The owners of the local Bean Counter Bakery Café have closed the Shrewsbury location in an effort to focus on the two remaining cafés in Worcester.

In social media posts Wednesday, the Bean Counter said the closure of the 16-year-old Shrewsbury shop would help the company put resources into the Worcester stores.

"This decision comes as part of our ongoing efforts to streamline operations and focus our resources on delivering an unparalleled experience at our flagship store, on online store, and the newly renovated Highland Street location in Worcester," the post said.

The Bean Counter store along Highland Street — about four miles west down Route 9 — had a grand reopening last month after a renovation. The Bean Counter's flagship Worcester shop along Grove Street opened in 2020.

"While bidding farewell to our Shrewsbury location is not easy, we are grateful to the patrons who have supported us throughout the years. Your loyalty and patronage have been the driving force behind our success, and for that, we extend our heartfelt gratitude. It has been our privilege to serve the Shrewsbury community," the post continued.
