WORCESTER, MA — A popular downtown Worcester Mexican restaurant will move into a former 99 Restaurant just off I-290.

Mezcal Cantina opened a decade ago on the first floor of the Major Taylor parking garage along Major Taylor Boulevard across from the DCU Center. The restaurant will soon reopen about one block away in the vacant 99 Restaurant space along East Central Street.

Mezcal said it will likely close its Major Taylor restaurant around Memorial Day. The new space along East Central Street will also coincide with a new menu, and new space for diners.

"We're taking the opportunity to refresh our brand, from our identity, to our menu, to our ambiance, all while keeping the elements that have made Mezcal the perfect spot for date night...and family night...for 17 years!

"We're looking forward to offering lunch daily with a full gluten-free menu, tons of parking in our huge lot, an even bigger and better tequila list, and outdoor dining on our new private patio. All still within walking distance to the DCU Center on event nights!" the restaurant said in a social media post this week.
