WORCESTER, MA — Changes may be coming to Worcester's bagel scene.

Plans filed recently with the Worcester Zoning Board of Appeals show that the owner of the plaza at 194 Park Ave. is planning to open a new restaurant that would partially use the Bagel Time space.

The plans, filed by 194 Park Avenue LLC, say the new restaurant will take over the spaces occupied by Bagel Time and a neighboring smoke shop. Contacted by email, a representative from the LLC said Bagel Time is planning to move to a new space nearby at the intersection of Park Avenue and Pleasant Street.

A request for comment sent to Bagel Time was not immediately returned. Bagel Time opened in 1992 at 194 Park Ave. co-owned by local businessman Alvin Kaplan, who also owned the former The Ivy Shop and Shirts Plus chains.

Bagel Time remains the only standalone bagel deli in Worcester following the closure of Anthem Bagel Co. on Kelley Square.

The owner of the plaza is seeking approval from the ZBA to have fewer parking spaces at the plaza for the new planned restaurant.
