GM Recalls 196K Hummers; Faulty Fans May Cause Fires

The automaker said the faulty parts will be replaced at no cost to the owner.

General Motors said Wednesday that it is recalling 196,000 Hummer SUVs, including 165,000 in the United States, because of ventilation fan defects that can cause fires.

Recalled autos include 2006 to 2010 Hummer H3 and the 2009 and 2010 Hummer H3T models, the Associated Press reports.

The company said the module controlling heating and air conditioning blower motor speeds can overheat when operated for a long time, causing nearby plastic parts of melt and increasing the risk of fire.

There have been no crashes associated with the defect, but three minor burns have been reported.

Dealers will replace the faulty module at no cost to owners.
