Four-peat: Edina Wins 4th Straight Boys Swim, Dive State Title

This year's state title is the 14th overall for the Hornets' boys swimming and diving team.

EDINA, MN — Edina High School's boys swimming and diving team continued its domination in the pool over the weekend as it won its fourth consecutive Class AA state championship.

Edina High School finished with 355 points after 12 races, with their closest competition, Minnetonka, earning 200 points, according to statistics from the Minnesota State High School League.

The Hornets won one individual race and all three relays as the team raced to its 14th overall state title in boys swimming and diving.

Senior Kai Taft set a new school record as he won the 200-yard individual medley, and he was also a member of two of Edina’s successful relay teams.

Taft was joined by seniors Patrick Horton and Michael Thurk and sophomore Rohan D’Souza Larson on the winning 200-yard medley relay team, which also set a new school record.

Taft and D’Souza Larson were also on the winning 200-yard freestyle relay team, alongside senior Max Dow and junior Nico Leibert.

Horton, Thurk, Dow and senior Matthew Walker won the 400-yard freestyle relay, according to the MSHSL.

Edina swimmers also put up solid finishes across the other eight races.

Freshman Jiarui Xue, Walker and senior Brennan Hughes finished third, fourth and sixth, respectively, in the 500-yard freestyle race, while Taft finished second and D’Souza Larson finished sixth in the 100-yard breaststroke.

Walker and Dow placed third and fourth, respectively, in the 200-yard freestyle race, and Horton finished third in the 100-yard backstroke.

The team now has 14 state championships. The Hornets won three in the 1960s, three in the 1980s, three in the 2000s, and one in 2010.
