Concord Man Charged with Burglary

Police allege that Erick Plume stole rims from an automotive company.

A local man was arraigned earlier this week after allegedly burglarizing an automotive company in the southeastern part of the city.

Erick W. Plume, 28, of Broadway in Concord, was arrested at 8 a.m. on Sept. 10, on a felony burglary charge.

According to a police report, officers were called to the area around Big Jim’s on South Main Street for a report of a man in a blue hoodie and black pants pushing a shopping cart full of rims. When confronted by the tipster, the man reportedly fled the scene toward the railroad tracks.

Officers began checking the area of the tracks and Popular Avenue and one found a potential suspect, Plume, near Schnitzer’s, where the telephone poles are stored.

“Plume fit the description of the subject in this incident,” the reporting officer wrote.

Dispatch called Force 5 Automotive to see if the company was missing rims, since it had reported other thefts recently.

Plume reportedly admitted to be the man seen earlier pushing the cart of rims and “several times asked to be arrested” even though officers told him he wasn’t under arrest. He was also reportedly moving the sole of his sneaker in a circular pattern in the sand. The shopping cart with the rims was found nearby at the end of Maitland.

The owner of Force 5 came by to look at the rims while a sergeant checked the area around the business to see if Plume’s sneaker prints were seen near the company.

“(The sergeant) told me that he checked the area of Force 5 in the fenced in area and located a footwear pattern that matched the one left by Plume,” the report stated. “This pattern was both inside and outside the fenced in area.”

The owner of the company also confirmed the five rims were his, noting that his parts were marked with a red marker.

Plume was arrested and charged, and allegedly had a pair of pliers and a screwdriver in his possession.

After the arrest, the officer went back to the business to gather more evidence, including cuts in a fence. Witnesses were also contacted, including an employee, a trucker, and the original caller, who all allegedly confirmed seeing Plume in the area.

Plume was arraigned on Oct. 27.
