Brett Reno, 27, of Concord was arrested at 3:20 a.m. on Feb. 7 on simple assault, disorderly conduct, and two resisting and detention charges. Police were sent to the Branch Turnpike at 2:45 a.m. for a noise complaint inside an apartment. The officers spoke with Reno and a woman, told them there were complaints, and requested they keep the music and voices down. Reno, according to an affidavit, said he thought it was 11 p.m. and admitted to drinking a lot of tequila. "Brett was clearly very impaired but remained in his residence," the officer wrote. "We cleared the call." About 20 minutes later, more complaints were filed and this time, officers returned, using a back entrance, and confirmed that there were very loud voices and music coming from the apartment. As they approached the apartment, a woman stuck her head outside of the door, saw police, and closed the door, the report said. An officer reported hearing voices "frantically saying, 'It's the cops,'" and the door was then opened. Police identified the woman and accused her of yelling, saying the music was not that loud and "our neighbors are bitches." The reporting officer accused Reno of aggressively posturing and then, pushing the door into the officer. The officers attempted to push back and contain Reno, who would be charged with assault for using the door to hit the officer. As Reno struggled, he was eventually taken to the floor, the report stated. The reporting officer accused Reno of continuing to struggle with officers and one used a pressure point on his ear to get him to cede so he could be handcuffed, the affidavit stated. A sergeant assisted the officers in moving Reno to a police cruiser. Reno, who is Caucasian, was accused of yelling and making accusations about "abuse and racism." When Reno allegedly refused to put a mask on, he was taken directly to the county jail for processing. Reno was previously arrested on a second-degree assault charge in Concord in May 2012 that was nolle prossed three months later. He was also arrested on armed robbery, assault, and other charges in October 2013 in Concord. Reno pleaded guilty to single counts of robbery and assault in March 2014.
