Ever wonder how those puppets you see on television and in movies are made? In this class, Eric Weiss of HomeSlice Puppetry teaches you the secrets to building your own foam-patterned hand and rod puppet and all the materials, elements, and skills that make them look so real and lifelike. Students will also learn the fundamentals of creating a character through the use of color, texture, different materials, and movement, as well as how to manipulate your puppet to bring your character to life. These puppets are sewn and covered in fleece using the “Henson” or “Ladder” stitch. No previous puppetry skills are needed, (basic hand-sewing skills are helpful.
