Stratham Teen Arrested On Stabbing, Breach Charges In Hampton

HAMPTON, NH — A teen from the Seacoast is in more trouble after being accused of stabbing a man in Hampton while out on bail after being charged with burglary.

On Sunday night, Hampton police were sent to the area of High Street and Moulton Road for a report of an assault. When officers arrived, they found one person with lacerations to the leg and heavy blood loss.

During the course of the investigation, police learned the victim had been stabbed in the area of Ocean Boulevard, and the people involved dispersed the area after the incident, Chief Alex Reno of the Hampton Police Department said. The victim was stabbed three times, causing puncture wounds and a pierced artery.

“One half of the group pulled over in the area of High Street and Moulton Road,” he said, “while the other half fled in an unknown direction.”

On Tuesday, police asked for the public’s help in identifying a suspect. After further investigation, Joseph James Davis, 18, of Stratham was arrested on Thursday on one felony count of second-degree assault and a breach of bail charge. He refused bail and was arraigned on Friday in Rockingham County Superior Court.

According to Davis’ case summary paperwork, a second felony second-degree assault count was added to his charges. His bail status is unknown at post time.

Reno said the breach of bail charge was due to a felony case out of Seabrook.

Court records show Davis was charged with burglary in October after an incident in May. He was released on $500 cash bail and was required to adhere to a curfew between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. Davis was also ordered not to discuss the case with a co-defendant, the court said.

Davis is due back in Rockingham County Superior Court for a dispositional conference hearing on the burglary charge on Jan. 2, 2024,
