Freehold Twp HS Students' Family Positive For Coronavirus: School

Immediate family of the students tested positive, the school principal said; the students have been in self-quarantine as a precaution.

FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP, NJ — Students at Freehold Township High School whose immediate family members have tested positive for the new coronavirus have been in self-quarantine since Thursday, the school's principal said over the weekend.

Principal Alicia Scelso did not identify the students, but said they were not in school Thursday or Friday.

The students were not showing any symptoms of COVID-19, she said.

Scelso said the district remains in contact with state and local health officials and "is committed to being as transparent, proactive and fully protective as possible of our students, staff and community as possible as we all navigate and continue to deal with the developing situation with the coronavirus."

As of Sunday, there were 98 cases of COVID-19 in New Jersey, and two people have died from it, according to the state health department. There have been 12 positives in Monmouth County, and two deaths, including a woman in her 50s who died at CentraState Medical Center in Freehold Township.
