First Presumptive Positive Case Of Coronavirus In Hoboken

HOBOKEN – The Hoboken Health Department announced on Friday that the city has its first known positive case of new coronavirus.

Mayor Ravinder Bhalla said the case involves a Hoboken man in his 40s. The affected individual has been kept in self-isolation at home.

The Hoboken Health Department has been in close contact with the individual, who is only experiencing mild symptoms and is expected to recover fully.

Since receiving this information, the Hoboken Health Department has been developing a timeline of events. Individuals who may have been in contact with the patient are being notified and being recommended for self-quarantine, as advised by the New Jersey Department of Health.

Presumptive positive means the person tested positive in state labs. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention ultimately confirms the test. So far, 100 percent of the state's positive tests have been confirmed.

The Hoboken Health Department has also been in touch with these individuals and is monitoring them closely.

"To be clear, we unfortunately anticipate the likelihood of additional positive COVID-19 cases to be confirmed in the days and weeks ahead, which have not yet been discovered," the mayor said. "However, we are doing everything possible to limit the spread of COVID-19 through proactive measures and regulations."
