HAZLET, NJ - Most roads in Hazlet have been reopened after the heavy rainfall overnight has caused many to close down due to flooding, according to police. Schools in town are also closed for the day.

Most roads have reopened, but Munro Avenue is closed between Thirteenth Street and Tenth Street.

Police assisted around 15 drivers whose cars were stuck in deep floodwaters. All of them were able to get out safely — some with minor assistance from officers.

No injuries were reported and no houses had to be evacuated due to floods, police also said.

Police said they were in the process of getting a list together for the location of all towed vehicles. It would be helpful for drivers to be able to provide the last location of their car, maker, model, color and registration.

"There is flooding on just about every roadway in town," police had said earlier on Tuesday morning, urging residents to stay home. "While the rain has slowed down and some water has receded, there are still many impassible roadways in town."

Many roads had been flooded earlier in the day, including Poole Avenue, Madison Drive, Route 35 before Hazlet Avenue (near Cerlione's), Beadle Road, Florence Avenue between Route 35 and Route 36, Middle Road, Brookside Avenue, Union Avenue, Union Hill and Clark Street.

Police said some drivers had ignored the cones blocking roadways and advised everyone to not go around the cones and stay clear of these roads.

"We are working diligently to ensure passible roadways are reopened and those impassible stay closed," police said Tuesday morning. "Please try to stay home unless absolutely necessary to leave."
