Jersey City Schools Closed Tuesday Due To Storm

JERSEY CITY, NJ — Incoming storms cancelled school in Jersey City Public Schools on Tuesday.

Superintendent Franklin Walker issued the announcement of the closure Monday night. All schools in the district will be closed, custodial, security, trade workers, and 12-month employees must report at their regular time, Walker's message read.

Governor Murphy issued a State of Emergency due to the storm on Monday. Jersey City and the rest of Hudson County could be hit with as much as 2 to 4 inches of rain from Monday night into Tuesday.

Jersey City has been posting frequent forecast updates on its Twitter account from the National Weather Service and other outlets. The flash flood watch issued for Hudson, Essex, Passaic, Union counties runs from 8 p.m. Monday through 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Jersey City has 14 "repeat flooding" intersections throughout the city, identified by the Jersey City's Municipal Utilities Authority. During heavy rains and flooding, drivers and residents should use extra caution and avoid the intersections when possible.

1) 9th Street & Brunswick Avenue

2) Linden Avenue & Princeton Avenue

3) Kellogg Street & Route 440 (DOT Drainage)

4) Westside Avenue & Audubon Avenue

5) Fisk Street & Route 440 (DOT Drainage)

6) Culver Avenue & Route 440 (DOT Drainage)

7) Grove Street Between Jersey City & Hoboken

8) Marin Blvd Between Jersey City & Hoboken

9) Merseles Street & Wayne Street

10) Center Street & Bright Street11) Clendenny Avenue & Marcy Avenue

12) Richard Street just East of Garfield Avenue

13) Manholes on Montgomery Street (Florence St to Mill Rd)

14) Cornelison Avenue
