Manalapan Man Becomes Monmouth's Fifth Coronavirus Patient

MANALAPAN, NJ — As county officials predicted, the number of coronavirus patients in Monmouth County continues to climb, as a fifth patient was announced Thursday afternoon.

The latest patient to test positive for the virus is a 53-year-old Manalapan man, who is currently hospitalized at CentraState Medical Center, according to New Jersey Health Commissioner Judy Persichilli.

This man had previously been exposed to another confirmed case of the virus, but she did not say where.

As of Thursday afternoon, the five total Monmouth County cases are:

• A 53-year-old Manalapan man hospitalized at CentraState. His medical condition is unknown.
• A 66-year-old Hazlet woman who attended the Golden Age adult daycare in Morganville. She was admitted to Bayshore Medical Center in Holmdel, where she is currently being treated. Her condition is unknown.
• An 83-year-old Hazlet woman who also attended the Golden Age adult daycare. She was also admitted to Bayshore, and is in stable condition. Golden Age daycare has voluntarily shut down after these two cases came to light.
• A 27-year-old Little Silver man who was treated at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank, but has since been discharged and is in isolation at home. He attended the Biogen conference in Boston and is thought to have contracted the virus there, along with dozens of others. He is said to be recovering.
• His younger sister, a 17-year-old teenager at Red Bank Regional High School. Her diagnosis prompted the shutdown of Red Bank Regional.

Golden Age is located right off Tennent Road in Morganville, near the intersection of Rt. 18. They voluntarily closed operations after the two women there came down with the virus.

The best defense against the coronavirus is to practice safe respiratory hygiene and take steps to prevent the spread of germs including washing hands, covering coughs and sneezes, and staying home when sick.
