Red Bank Approves Pot Shop, Just Over Rt. 35 Bridge From Middletown

The retail marijuana shop will be located at 199 Riverside Avenue in Red Bank, right across the street from Lighthouse Italian Ice.

MIDDLETOWN, NJ — On Monday night, Dec. 18, the Red Bank Planning Board gave preliminary approval to allow a retail marijuana shop to be built right at the foot of the Rt. 35 bridge over the Navesink River from Middletown.

The shop will be located at 199 Riverside Avenue, right across the street from Strollo’s Lighthouse Italian Ice, according to Monday night's agenda from the Planning Board (see "Public Hearing").

There used to be a gas station there (Bridge Avenue Gas), but it is currently an empty lot.

To allow marijuana to be sold there, the business needs to change the permitted use of the property, so they had to file an application with the Red Bank Planning Board. The board approved that application on first reading at their Monday night meeting.

The name the applicant used to file with the town is The Garden at Red Bank, although that might not be the name of the retail pot shop. They are proposing to build a one-story, 2,542-square-foot retail cannabis shop, with 31 parking spaces.
