MONTCLAIR, NJ — Two burglars smashed their way into a Montclair home on Tuesday, but they were scared off when the resident went to investigate the noise, authorities said.

According to the Montclair Police Department, a Plymouth Street resident reported that he heard “crashing sounds” – followed by his home alarm activating.

“When he went downstairs to investigate, he discovered two individuals inside his home. Upon confronting the suspects, both individuals fled through a rear sliding glass door. Entry into the home was gained after the suspects used a large flat rock to shatter the rear door. Nothing was taken from the home.”

Police said the suspects had a thin build and were wearing dark clothing. No additional information was immediately available.
