UPDATED: Montclair OEM Lifts State Of Emergency

Montclair officials have lifted a state of emergency declaration issued during this week's blizzard.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — Update: The Montclair OEM lifted the state of emergency Wednesday, town officials announced. Parking restrictions were also lifted. Our previous article follows below.

On Monday, the Montclair Office of Emergency Management (OEM) declared a state of emergency in the township due to a snowstorm forecast for this week.

"Due to forecasts for blizzard conditions with possible snow accumulations of 20 to 26 inches, the Montclair Office of Emergency Management has declared a state of emergency, effective 10 p.m. on Monday," municipal officials stated.

Montclair officials reminded residents that there is no parking on public streets during a snow event so that plowing can take place.

The parking prohibition remains in effect after the snowfall has stopped and until the entire block of roadway has been cleared of snow, officials stated.

In addition:

  • Daily overnight parking permits may not be used when streets are snow covered
  • Cars parked on streets after 10 p.m. will be towed
  • Residents may park their cars in municipal parking lots after 8 p.m. on Monday (see map of locations here)
  • All township recreation programs are canceled for Tuesday
  • All township programs scheduled at Edgemont Park House are canceled Tuesday and Wednesday
  • Residents and business owners are reminded that snow blowing and shoveling snow from walkways, driveways and sidewalks into the streets, plowing driveways into the streets, cleaning snow off of vehicles into the streets is prohibited per township ordinance 297-33 [see below map]

MONTCLAIR TRASH

Hold onto that trash, Montclair. According to a news release from the township, municipal officials are suspending refuse, recycling and bulk waste collection on Tuesday and Wednesday due to a forecasted snowstorm.

Municipal officials issued the following advisory on Monday morning:

“Due to weather forecasts calling for significant snowfall, refuse, recycling and bulk waste collection will be suspended on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 14 and 15. There will be no makeup collections. Regular collection schedule will resume on Thursday, March 16. Evening shuttle service from Bay Street Station will be suspended tomorrow.”

MONTCLAIR STATE UNIVERSITY

Administrators at Montclair State University announced that the school will close on Tuesday, March 14.
