MORRISTOWN, NJ - A family owned and operated restaurant at the heart of Elm Street is shuttering its doors permanently, according to one of its co-owners.

La Campagna Ristorante is the latest Morristown eatery claimed by COVID-19.

"I have made the very difficult decision to permanently close the doors to La Campagna. The financial hardship I have faced these past four months has been great," co-owner Benito Capello said. "I appreciate how the community came together to show their support with takeout orders and outdoor dining. It's because of all of you that I have been able to keep the restaurant open till now."

For the last decade brothers Benito and Sal Capello, raised in the restaurant business by their father, John Capello, of "Old World" La Catena in Bridgewater, have been at the helm of the longtime BYOB establishment restaurant and a local favorite.

"The restaurant itself has been in operation 25+ years and this past January marked 10 years (though it feels like only yesterday) since I purchased it with my brother Sal," Capello said on social media. "I will miss you all very much!! Thank you again and stay safe everyone."
