NJ Congressman Still Hospitalized After Cardiac Episode: Payne Update

NEW JERSEY — U.S. Rep. Donald Payne Jr. of New Jersey is still hospitalized after suffering a cardiac episode related to his diabetes last week.

Payne, a Newark resident, was taken to the hospital after last week's medical incident. A spokesperson for the congressman gave an update on his condition on Wednesday:

"Congressman Donald M. Payne Jr. suffered a cardiac episode based on complications from his diabetes last week. Today, he is in stable condition at a local hospital and continues to be under doctor’s care. While we hope for a full recovery, we ask everyone to keep him in your prayers.”

Payne represents New Jersey's 10th Congressional District, which includes the following municipalities:

The congressman has been open about his struggles with diabetes, recently writing that he deals with daily health complications related to the disease, including regular dialysis treatments. He has been a strong advocate for lowering drug prices for crucial medication such as insulin.
