NJ Weather: Timeline, Hour-By-Hour NJ Snow, Nor'easter Forecast

NEW JERSEY – Forecasters have released the latest hour-by-hour details and estimates for a powerful nor'easter snowstorm that's expected to continue to hit New Jersey on Tuesday (see the hour-by-hour details and complete forecast below).

At least 32 inches have fallen since Gov. Phil Murphy declared a state of emergency for a nor'easter that's expected to impact the Garden State well into Tuesday.

"This is a big one," Murphy said during his Monday news conference, telling New Jersey residents, "If you don't need to be out, don't go out."

Murphy closed all six of New Jersey's COVID vaccine mega-sites on Monday, and a number of other sites have also closed. He also the state is working to make sure the roads are clear so vaccines can be transported. Read more: NJ COVID-19 Vaccine Sites Closing Because Of Nor'easter

Murphy also has suspended trains and buses and imposed highway restrictions as traffic issues have arisen.

Heavy snow remains likely and winds could gust as high as 50 mph. More than an inch per hour could fall during the height of the storm, which could be anytime between 12 noon and 6 p.m. Monday, the NWS says (see forecast below).

Murphy said the early afternoon will be the "teeth" of the storm and the state Department of Transportation has 3,900 pieces of equipment deployed to deal with the storm.

The quick melting of snow could lead to flooding, and then black ice could form once the temperatures drop on Monday night and Tuesday morning, afternoon and evening.

Power outages also could happen. Fewer than 1,000 were reported statewide at 9 a.m.

Here are the other potential impacts:

• Steady snow will continue in most areas through this evening. Tonight into Monday morning, a mix with or change to sleet and rain is likely from the coast up to near the I-95 corridor.
• Precipitation changes back to snow by late Monday before slowly winding down on Tuesday.
• Significant snowfall is expected, with the heaviest amounts favored over eastern Pennsylvania and central and northern New Jersey.
• There remains some uncertainty in the snowfall forecast, but confidence is high in a high impact winter storm for most areas. The heaviest snow is likely on Monday, when rates could exceed 1 inch per hour in the heaviest bands. Snow will likely continue into Tuesday, but additional accumulation then will be limited.
• Strong winds will develop especially near the coast and over the waters with gusts reaching 40 to 50-plus mph, strongest on Monday, resulting in hazardous boating conditions and potential power outages. Inland, gusts could reach 35 to 45 mph, resulting in reduced visibility and very hazardous travel in blowing and drifting snow, and isolated power outages.
• Coastal flooding is likely and could reach moderate levels as early as Monday morning along the Atlantic coast and Delaware Bay with additional coastal flooding possible Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning. Isolated instances of major flooding cannot be ruled out.
