NEWARK, NJ — A victim was pistol whipped and robbed in Newark earlier this week, authorities announced Tuesday.

According to the Newark Department of Public Safety, the robbery took place around 2 a.m. on the 40-block of Napoleon Street. Authorities released the following details about the incident:

“When police officers responded, they found a victim suffering from lacerations to his face after he was assaulted and robbed by two or three male suspects. Two of the men exited the vehicle, possibly a Kia, and approached the victim from behind, striking him in the face with a handgun. During the attack, the victim fell to the ground [and] the suspects took his wallet [which contained] $1,600, identification and debit cards. They got back into the white-colored, four-door vehicle and drove away.”

The suspects wore dark clothing, and the vehicle had tints on the window and a fog light on the driver’s side, police said, releasing surveillance photos taken at the scene (see below).
