Fanwood Police Officer Tests Positive For Coronavirus

This is Fanwood's first confirmed case of the new coronavirus (COVID-19). There are now a total of 15 positive cases in Union County.

FANWOOD, NJ — A Fanwood Police Officer has tested positive for the new coronavirus, the borough announced on Wednesday. This is Fanwood Borough's first confirmed positive case of COVID-19.

The officer lives outside of Union County and is self-isolating. Those who have been in close contact with the officer have been notified and interviewed.

"The Westfield Regional Health Department has determined that the officer’s interaction with the public was minimal and there is no risk to the general public as a result of this case," according to the borough.

"This should reinforce the need for social distancing, which is critical to the health and well being of our community," said Fanwood Mayor Colleen Mahr. "Together we'll get through this, but everyone has to do their part. We remind residents that anyone can be a carrier of the virus. Regardless of age or health, please consider the individuals around you and practice proper hygiene accordingly. We will come out of this a stronger community so long as we work together."

Fanwood residents should practice social distancing and maintain 6 feet of distance between others.
