12-Year-Old Injured In Watchung Hit-And-Run: Prosecutor

The boy suffered serious injuries and the vehicle fled westbound on Valley Road, authorities said.

WATCHUNG, NJ — A 12-year-old boy was seriously injured in a hit-and-run crash on Valley Road Tuesday night, authorities said.

The child was crossing Valley Road when he was hit by a vehicle, possibly a Hyundai, going westbound, said Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson. The vehicle fled the scene. Police responded to the scene at about 6:55 p.m.

The boy was taken to a local hospital for treatment with serious, but non-life-threatening, injuries, Robertson said. He was with several other juveniles who were not hit or injured. The boy was in stable condition Wednesday afternoon.

Watchung police officers and detectives from the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office Collision Analysis Reconstruction Team (CART) went to the crash scene and investigated.
