Flood Warning In Wayne, Parts Of Passaic Co.

Flood warnings have been issued in certain areas near the Ramapo and Passaic Rivers, which are expected to crest Tuesday.

PASSAIC COUNTY, NJ — A flood warning is in effect for Wayne and parts of Passaic County as local rivers are rising and more rain may add to water levels, said the National Weather Service.

Both the Passaic and Ramapo rivers are expected to reach peak heights on Tuesday afternoon after the weekend's round of storms, added Wayne police.

Two Bridges Road is closed going into Lincoln Park and Wayne, said the NWS. Fayette Road is also closed in Wayne, said police on Monday.

The Passaic River has risen above the flood stage of 19 feet, and is expected to rise to 20.5 feet on Tuesday evening, according to the NWS.

The Pompton River peaked at 15.31 feet on Monday and is expected to lower on Tuesday and Wednesday according to the forecast hydrograph. However, the Passaic River crested over the flood stage level of 8.5 feet at Two Bridges (Singac) and is expected to peak above the flood stage of 7 feet at Little Falls.

Here are the flood warnings affecting Passaic County:

  • Passaic River above Signac: Until early Wednesday morning.
  • Pequannock River below Macopin Dam: Until Monday morning.
  • Passaic River at Pine Brook: Until further notice.
  • Passaic River at Little Falls: Until early Thursday morning.

Wayne Police advised residents living in areas affected by river levels to monitor the water levels and move vehicles to higher ground if needed.

More than three inches of rain have already fallen in Clifton, and in Ringwood and west Paterson residents saw more than two and a half inches of rain according to the NWS.

Parts of Wayne saw about 2.36 inches of rain, with others measuring closer to 1.75 inches.

Showers likely, mainly after 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 44. South wind 6 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Tuesday
Showers likely, mainly before 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 54. West wind 7 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Tuesday Night
A chance of showers before 8pm, then a slight chance of showers after 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 42. West wind 3 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.

Wednesday
Showers, mainly after 2pm. High near 55. West wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent.

Wednesday Night
Showers, mainly before 8pm. Low around 41. Northwest wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent.
