Woman Dies Crossing Valley Road, 6-Year-Old Injured: Prosecutor

The woman is the second person to die this week after being hit by a vehicle while crossing the major Wayne Road.

WAYNE, NJ — A woman was killed and a 6-year-old child suffered serious injuries when they were hit by a car crossing Valley Road, authorities said.

The woman is the second person to die this week while crossing Valley Road. Rosa Nikhamina, 78, of Wayne was struck Monday at the intersection of Valley Road and MacDonald Drive and later died from her injuries, authorities said.

Police responded to Valley Road and Beechwood Terrace at about 7 p.m. Tuesday on a report of a motor vehicle accident involving two pedestrians, said Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes.

An adult woman and a 6-year-old boy were trying to cross Valley Road when a Chevy Impala hit them, Valdes said.

The woman and the child were taken to St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center in Paterson where the adult woman was pronounced dead at 7:46 p.m., Valdes said.

The child is being treated for serious injuries.

The Impala's driver and passenger were not injured in the accident, Valdes said.

The investigation is active and ongoing and more information will be released once available, authorities said.
