WEST ORANGE, NJ — The candidates for mayor in West Orange faced off at a public debate last weekend, giving local voters another look at their choices for the 2022 nonpartisan municipal election.

West Orange voters will head to the polls on Tuesday, Nov. 8 for the general election. In addition to federal, state and county candidates, West Orange residents will be asked to cast ballots for mayor, town council and the local board of education.

West Orange’s current mayor, Robert Parisi, announced that he will not be running for re-election in November. There are four candidates seeking to take his place: Joe Krakoviak, Cindy Matute-Brown, Susan McCartney and Bill Rutherford. Read More: West Orange Mayor Not Seeking Re-Election In 2022 (Updated)

On Sunday, the four mayoral hopefuls met to debate the issues at a forum held by the Pleasant Valley Civic Association and B’nai Shalom.

A separate candidate forum for mayoral and town council candidates took place at the United Presbyterian Church of West Orange last month. The debate was hosted by the West Orange African Heritage Organization in collaboration with United Asian Voices of West Orange and the West Orange Hispanic Foundation.
