BABYLON, NY — "Delicious" Diesel is a resident of the Babylon Animal Shelter and is the Pet of the Week.

He's an American pitbull who's around "six years young," long-time shelter volunteer Christine Franke told Patch.

He's been in the shelter for a year and a half, which Franke said is "way too long for any dog to be in a small kennel."

She added that he's dog-friendly but isn't a good fit for small children.

"Diesel is so smart and would thrive from an adopter that will guide him and help him navigate the outside world," said shelter volunteer Dennis Holloway said.

Franke also said Diesel is a "butterball" who's "blossomed" under the love and care of the shelter's dedicated volunteers.

"Diesel is a treat-loving smart boy who picks things up quickly," Franke said. "He's looking for a confident, strong leader to continue to show him the ropes of life in the loving home that he deserves."

To give Diesel his forever family or find another potential soulmate, please call the Babylon Animal Shelter at 631-643-9270. His identification number is 22-512.

Adoption hours are currently Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

In the meantime, the shelter specifically needs experienced large dog handlers and its staff is happy to train interested dog lovers.

There's also an abundance of bunnies, kittens and cats to spend time with too, Franke said. Anyone interested in volunteering may contact the shelter by calling the number above or emailing [email protected].
