BABYLON, NY — Louie, aka the "Godfather" of the Babylon Animal Shelter, is the shelter's Pet of the Week.

Louie's a male mastiff mix who arrived at the shelter in July of 2023. While staff is unsure of his exact age, they estimate that he's around "three to six years young."

“He’s a laid-back guy who enjoys leisurely walks, playing with toys and most importantly snacks and snuggle time with his dedicated volunteers," Christine Franke, who works closely with Louie, told Patch. "We would love to see Louie in a home before his upcoming one-year anniversary."

Franke says Louie would thrive in a home without other animals that can provide lots of love—and meatballs.

"He enjoys his Meatball Fridays which dedicated volunteer Ken Knowd gives him every Friday," Franke said.

To give Louie his forever home or find another potential soulmate, please call the Babylon Animal Shelter at 631-643-9270. His identification number is 23-307.

Adoption hours are currently Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

In the meantime, the shelter is specifically in need of experienced large dog handlers. However, there is an abundance of bunnies, kittens and cats to spend time with too, Franke said.

Anyone interested in volunteering may contact the shelter by calling the number above or emailing [email protected].
