Out of all of the Suffolk County school districts that received the aid, 17 school districts are located between Sayville and Amityville.

According to the lottery and the New York State Gaming Commission, the amount of money dispersed by the State Education Department as Lottery Aid is based upon estimated earnings at the time of budget passage. The funds are distributed based on a school district's income level and size, with more funding given to larger, low-income schools. If lottery earnings exceed budget estimates, those additional funds become part of the next year’s Lottery Aid distribution.
