Person Stabbed At LI's Adventureland Critically Injured; Man Arrested: SCPD

The two men were acquaintances, police say. A child was present at the time of the stabbing, police say.

EAST FARMINGDALE, NY — A Shirley man was arrested after he stabbed and critically injured his acquaintance during a fight at Adventureland Amusement Park in East Farmingdale on Sunday afternoon, Suffolk police said.

The two men who knew each other were involved in an argument involving several people at the amusement park, at 2245 Broadhollow Road, when Daniel Tomasky, 42, stabbed James Burns, 47, of Edgewater, Florida, in the abdomen with a knife around 4:50 p.m., police said. At least one child was present during the fight, police said.

Burns was transported to a nearby hospital where he is in critical condition, police said.

Tomasky was arrested and charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and endangering the welfare of a child.

He was held overnight at the Third Precinct and is set to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Monday.

“For more than 60 years, Adventureland has been providing Long Island families with a convenient, affordable and fun local destination," an Adventureland spokesman told Patch in a statement. "The safety and security of our visitors is our highest priority."

The spokesman said on Sunday, two families got into a confrontation at the park. Park Safety responded quickly to the fight to secure the scene, provide aid to Burns and called in local police and first responders, according to the spokesman.

All parts of Adventureland are open Monday and operating under regular hours in the week coming up.

"We defer any further comment about the incident to Suffolk Police who are investigating," the spokesman stated.
