2 Arrested In $32,500 Elder Scam Of Valley Stream Man: Police

Both people are with third-degree grand larceny, police said.

VALLEY STREAM, NY — A 67-year-old man from Valley Stream was the victim of an elder scam this week, police said.

Two people were charged in the scheme on Monday afternoon.

It started when the victim, having technical issues with his computer, went online to find a number for customer service.

The tech support representative advised the victim of suspicious activity on his bank account and requested $32,500 in cash to fix the problem, police said.

The victim went to his bank and was informed that he was being scammed. He contacted police.

The fraudulent representative, "Joshua Matthews" contacted the victim requesting photos of the money and he was told that a second representative would come to his house to pick up the money, authorities said.

An investigation led to the arrest of Weixu Huang, 43, of Manhattan, and Yongmei You, 41, of Brooklyn.

They are each charged with third-degree grand larceny and were released on an appearance ticket to return on April 8.
