6 LI School Districts Named Among The Best In America In New Ranking

Many placed in the top 10 among all school districts in the country in the new rankings from Niche.

LONG ISLAND, NY — Six Long Island school districts were named among the best in the country in the education platform Niche’s 2023 Best Schools and Districts rankings released Tuesday.

The six districts were named among the top 25 best district in the country, out of 11,820 nationwide. They all received A+ grades in the rankings.

  • Great Neck: No. 3
  • Jericho: No. 4
  • Syosset: No. 5
  • Roslyn: No. 6
  • Hewlett-Woodmere: No. 19
  • Herricks: No. 20

Niche also ranked 92,743 public schools and 30,112 private schools in the 2023 report. The platform said its rankings were created to provide families with valuable information — both quantitative and qualitative — on schools in their area or in a neighborhood they’re not familiar with yet.

Many Long Island high schools were named among the best in the state.

The rankings differ from others that rely almost exclusively on test scores and academic performance in that it also includes input from students, alumni and parents, as well as quantitative data from sources such as the U.S. Department of Education to evaluate teachers, resources and facilities.
