WESTBURY, NY — In an overwhelming vote, a Westbury Starbucks has become the latest store in the coffee chain to unionize. It is the second on Long Island to join the growing Starbucks union movement.

Workers at the store, located in The Gallery at Westbury Plaza, at 900 Old Country Road in Garden City, voted on June 10 whether or not to form a union. The vote was unanimous, 23-0 in favor.

The Westbury store is the second Long Island Starbucks to unionize. The first was the Massapequa Village Square Starbucks, which won its union vote 19-8 in May.

Nearly 150 Starbucks stores across the country have won bids to unionize in recent months, and many more are planning votes.

Not all of the bids have been successful, though. A Starbucks in Great Neck held a vote to unionize the same day as Massapequa, and the bid was defeated. The Great Neck store was the first on Long Island to announce its intention to unionize.
