Fireworks Illegally Shot In Franklin Square, 2 Men Arrested: Police

Fourteen cases of fireworks were seized, police say. The department said it has a "zero-tolerance policy" for illegal fireworks possession.

FRANKLIN SQUARE, NY — Two Franklin Square men were arrested after Nassau police said they were illegally shooting off fireworks on Thursday evening.

Nicholas Moschonas, 33, was seen setting off fireworks on the corner of Third Street and Second Avenue around 6:20 p.m., police said. A 2019 Dodge RAM belonging to Peter Mari, 33, was discovered with numerous boxes of fireworks inside, police said. Moschonas and Mari were arrested without further incident, police said.

Detectives seized 14 cases of fireworks, police said.

"For the safety and security of all residents and visitors, Nassau County Police will continue their zero-tolerance approach regarding the possession and illegal use of fireworks," the department stated. "The Nassau County Police Department reminds its residents that the use of explosives, including fireworks, is illegal and extremely dangerous."

Moschonas was charged with explosives: licenses and certificates, explosives: storage, unlawfully selling fireworks and reckless endangerment. Mari was charged with explosives: licenses and
certificates.

They are set to be arraigned on Friday at First District Court, at 99 Main St., Hempstead.
