NEWBURGH, NY — An Oklahoma woman who was driving drunk crashed into another car killing one person and severely injuring another.

Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler said Wednesday that Nicholle Hoke, 45, Shawnee, Oklahoma, pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicular homicide.

Hoke told police she was driving to her hotel from a bar in New Paltz where she was drinking.

A warrant was signed for blood drawn from Hoke at St. Luke’s Hospital, which revealed her blood alcohol content was twice the legal limit at 0.16 percent.

At the plea proceedings, she admitted she engaged in reckless driving and caused the death of one person and the serious physical injury of another while having more than a 0.08 percent blood alcohol content.

Hoovler said that driving while intoxicated is a senseless, incredibly dangerous and criminal act.

“Unfortunately, the lives of the victims in this case and their families are forever altered because of the choices made by this defendant,” he said. “Incidents such as this one are not accidents, they are serious crimes and perpetrators need to be held accountable.”
