Protesters Snarl Traffic On Newburgh-Beacon Bridge

While the westbound traffic was halted for a brief time, delays lasted much longer.

BEACON, NY — The westbound lanes of the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge are now open after being closed briefly Monday because of protesters.

Shortly after 8 a.m., a small group of people protesting the Israel-Hamas conflict and demanding a ceasefire got out of their cars on the westbound lanes of the bridge connecting Beacon and Newburgh, News 12 reported.

Traffic was diverted onto Route 9D by police.

The protesters were cleared by 8:40 a.m. but traffic delays lasted for another couple of hours.
