FBI Joins Manhunt For 'Marcos' In Fatal Smoke Shop Shoot-Out

A suspect connected to the shooting death of two during a robbery at a Mount Vernon smoke shop remains at large, according to authorities.

MOUNT VERNON, NY — Federal authorities have joined the hunt for a fugitive wanted for questioning in connection to a smoke shop robbery that left two dead.

Just after midnight on Tuesday, Mount Vernon police were called to S. Fifth Ave. on a report of shots fired. Officers arriving on the scene found two victims suffering from gunshot wounds.

One victim was rushed to Montefiore Mount Vernon Hospital and later died. A second victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to a report from NBC 4, citing two unnamed sources familiar with the investigation, the attempted robbery at the Mount Vernon smoke shop turned into a deadly shoot-out between the store staff and at least 10 suspects.

Law enforcement officials told CBS 2 that several suspects were taken into custody on Tuesday in connection to the fatal shootings in Mount Vernon. The operation reportedly involved the FBI, the NYPD and Mount Vernon police.

According to WPIX 11 there was a large police presence Tuesday evening on East Fordham Rd. and Hughes Ave. in the Bronx, near the Fordham University campus. It was believed to be related to the Mount Vernon shooting. The NYPD, the FBI and the Westchester County Police Department were all reportedly on the scene.

A Fordham University public safety alert sent Tuesday night said that authorities pursued a suspect who crashed a vehicle and then fled towards Fordham Rd.

Citing unnamed sources, CBS 2 reported that three or four people were arrested in the Fordham University area. Police were seen wearing tactical gear, and a van covered with dents was towed away, according to the station.
